Wednesday Afternoon Tour Excursions

T001 Architecture and Art

Bus leaves at 1:30 PM (boarding at 1:20) from The Pfister Hotel for an Architecture and Art Tour. During the tour you will visit:

  • Conrad Schmitt Studios ― guided tour to view Artisans at work, perhaps meet the founder, Bernard O. Gruenke, and hear about their past work with the churches to be toured.

  • Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Rev. Father James Dokos personally leads this tour. See the church designed for the Congregation by Frank Lloyd Wright and hear about their Liturgical use of the Worship Space.

  • St. Paul Episcopal Church ― guided tour of stained glass windows, in particular the largest collection of Tiffany Windows in Wisconsin.

T002 Beer Barons

Bus leaves at 1:45 (boarding at 1:35) from The Pfister Hotel for guided tours of:

  • Pabst Mansion ― built in 1890-92 for Capt. Frederick Pabst, world famous beer baron and his family. In 1908 the Archdiocese purchased it and for 67 years it served as the residence for five Archbishops.

  • Lakefront Brewery ― The newest micro-brewery in Milwaukee, the tour includes sampling of the brews, seeing the process, and hear about starting a modern day micro-brewery.

T003 City, Cycles & Conversation

Due to a limited number of registrants for this tour, THIS TOUR HAS BEEN CANCELLED as of December 11, 2009. Previous registrants will be contacted directly to choose one of the above tours or for a refund.

Bus leaves at 1:45 (boarding at 1:35) from The Pfister Hotel.

  • Driving Tour of Milwaukee Landmarks ― old & new. We will pass the Milwaukee Art Museum, Pier Milwaukee, Summerfest, venture through Milwaukee's Third Ward and Marquette University Campus. Then on to Miller Park, home of The Milwaukee Brewers, heading back through the revitalized Menomonee Valley to the Harley-Davidson Museum.

  • Harley-Davidson Museum ― 1 hour guided tour that focuses not only on the motorcycle itself, but its part in the history of manufacturing and Milwaukee. Following the tour there will be time available to walk around the museum on your own, or to gather in the lounge for a respite and possibly an informal chat with a special guest on the city's revitalization efforts.
