Lawrence Cunningham's
scholarly interests are in the area of systematic theology and culture,
Christian spirituality, and the history of Christian spirituality. His most
recent book is A Brief History of Saints (Oxford: Blackwell, 2005). He has
edited or written sixteen other books. He is also co-editor of the academic
monograph series "Studies in Theology and Spirituality" and serves as an
associate editor for a number of scholarly journals.
The author of over
fifty articles in peer reviewed or solicited journals and books, he has also
written over two hundred articles for pastoral and popular outlets. He has won
three Catholic Press Association awards for religious writing (1987, 1999, and
2000). The religion book notes columnist for Commonweal for over ten years, he
is also an award winning teacher at Notre Dame: the Fenlon Award from Sorin
College (1989) and a Kaneb award in 1999. He is currently finishing a book on
Roman Catholicism for Cambridge University Press and had been appointed
Christianity editor of the forthcoming Norton Anthology of World Religions.

As Archbishop of Cincinnati
since Dec. 20, 1982, the Most Rev. Daniel E. Pilarczyk is the longest-tenured
archbishop in the United States. He is also its longest-serving active bishop,
in recognition of which he was chosen to ask a question of Pope Benedict XVI
during his May 2008 pastoral visit to the U.S.
Archbishop Pilarczyk is the author of almost two dozen books and booklets, the
royalties from which he has donated to the Athenaeum of Ohio/Mount St. Mary’s
Seminary. His best selling book is Twelve Tough Issues – And More. His most
recent book is When God Speaks.

Dead Man Walking - The
Journey Continues

Sister Helen Prejean,
a 1999 nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, is a Roman Catholic nun,
educator and anti-death penalty activist and author. Her book Dead
Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the
United States was nominated for a 1993 Pulitzer Prize and made into
an acclaimed movie with Susan Sarandon. Fifteen years since
beginning her crusade, the Roman Catholic sister has witnessed five
executions in Louisiana. As the founder of Survive, a victim's
advocacy group in New Orleans, she continues to counsel not only
inmates on death row, but also families of murder victims. Her most
recent book is The Death of Innocence: An Eyewitness Account of
Wrongful Executions.
